Labels wrapped around the entire circumference of a container are the favoured choice for many products in bottles and jars. They can be applied using a self-adhesive (pressure sensitive) label applicator, but for high rates of production the most effective method is to use a rotary labelling machine to apply labels with hot-melt glue.
The stop-motion video illustrates basic operation of a rotary machine applying reel-fed labels to cylindrical containers. Labels are cut on the machine from the web and transferred by a vacuum gripper cylinder to the containers. Glue is applied during transfer.
Labelling stations on these machines have elaborate configurations and controls to ensure precise web transport and label cutting. This video illustrates a simplified arrangement.
An alternative method of applying wrap-around labels with hot-melt glue on a rotary machine uses pre-cut labels transferred directly from the label magazine. Hot-melt-glue is applied to containers on the carousel.
